University Continues Under Condition 1 Status, Next update by Noon Sunday

Saturday, January 7, 2017

CHARLOTTE - Jan. 7, 2017 - UNC Charlotte continues to monitor the weather situation closely.  The University will remain in Condition 1 this evening (Jan. 7) and overnight.

While campus roads and walkways have been cleared of initial snow accumulation and currently are safe for careful travel, low temperatures overnight may lead to refreezing.

The University will continue to assess the situation and will update the community again by noon Sunday. A decision about the operating condition for Monday, Jan. 9, will be made as soon as possible.  However, at present, it is anticipated classes will be held, and the new semester will begin as scheduled.

It is important to remember the weather conditions in other areas may be more severe than those on campus.  Therefore, regardless of the University’s operating condition, members of the University community should exercise good judgment about their ability to reach campus safely.

If students cannot reach campus for the start of classes on Monday, they should contact their instructors directly. Faculty members are encouraged to offer flexibility for students traveling farther distances back to campus. On-campus resident students should notify Housing and Residence Life if they are unable to move back into their residence hall as scheduled.

What You Need to Do

For individual who cannot reach campus Sunday:

  • Staff: Non-mandatory employees scheduled to work Sunday should contact their supervisors to discuss how they will account for missed time. Mandatory employees are expected to report to work as directed.
  • Faculty: Since classes are not in session on Sunday, faculty do not need to take action.
  • Students: Since classes are not in session on Sunday, off-campus students do not need to take action. On-campus resident students should continue to monitor their email for any relevant communication from Housing and Residence Life. For a list of open on-campus services, visit the Auxiliary Services webpage.
