CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jan. 10, 2014 - Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose made an in-studio appearance on "CBS This Morning," in New York, on Friday, Jan. 10. Rose was included in a panel of three female collegiate athletics directors from around the country who discussed their roles as leaders in the field, hurdles they may have faced and accomplishments they have enjoyed.
The panel of Rose, University of Texas Athletic Director Chris Plonsky and Rutgers University Athletic Director Julie Herrmann spoke with "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Norah O'Donnell and Charlie Rose.
One of the most respected athletic directors in the nation, Rose, who was named the athletic director in 1990-91, was just the third female AD of an NCAA Division I institution at the time. She became the first female named to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee, serving a five-year term from 2000-2004 and she was President of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in 2003-04.
She helped attract the 1994 NCAA Men's Final Four, the 1996 NCAA Women's Final Four and the 1999 and 2000 NCAA Div. I Men's Soccer College Cups to Charlotte. She has overseen nearly $100 million worth of athletic facility upgrades and construction and this past fall unveiled the 49ers first NCAA football team, which debuted in the new 15,314 seat on-campus Jerry Richardson Stadium.
The 49ers have enjoyed unprecedented athletic and academic success in her tenure while devoting record hours to community service. Fourteen of the 49ers sports have won a conference championship or earned an NCAA berth, or both, during her time as Director of Athletics. The department has posted a cumulative GPA of over 3.0 for the past seven years and this past year the 49ers surpassed 3,000 hours of community service for the first time.
Rose received the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Charlotte Business Journal's 17th Annual Women in Business Achievement Awards, this past fall.
